life

I didn't write out a big entry this week, maybe in a couple of days, but I did have a wonderful week. I've been translating for a Physicians Assitant group from Madison (I'll probably work with them this next week too). This weekend I went over to Panajachel and hung out with them, and it was wonderful. One of them is a co-owner of coffee shops in Madison, and she got me super excited about opening a shop, so maybe that will happen in the near future. We also had some wonderful conversations about faith and church and the like, so that was really cool.
Peace.

Hey Steve,
I'm not sure you remember me. I'm your..."cousin-in-law" Adam Barr (I married Jen Zylstra. I swear, moving into a Dutch family has introduced me to a whole host of genealogical complexities.)

Anyway...I've been reading through your posts (your mom directed me to your blog. In the interest of full disclosure, she wanted me to see some of what you've been writing about salvation. So...I have an agenda. But...so does everyone else! I promise it's not a bad one, though).

If I didn't know better, I'd think someone had stolen my old journals. We both love doing work south of the border (I was just shooting a documentary in PV, Mexico about a feeding program, spent time in El Salvador and all over Mexico). We've read a lot of the same stuff and contemplated the same issues (I was a religion/philosophy major at Hope College). And I'm a sucker for good sci-fi. I actually got hooked on an Orson Scott Card series during finals week my jr. year at Hope. I ended up finishing four or five books in the series while taking my exams. Not a recommended course of action. Did you know he's a Mormon? I was fascinated to find that out. Actually drove me to read most of what he's written. That aside...

I've asked the very same questions you're contemplating right now. I know that sounds like an irritatingly "been there done that" kind of statement. But ... what can i say, i'm 32 and a fellow pilgrim. We've visited some of the same sites.

If you're interested/willing, I'd like us to dialogue on these things a little via e-mail. I spend a lot of time thinking/talking/writing about this stuff. I want to get your perspective and maybe push you on some of these things. If you're up for that, atbarr@hotmail.com.
